Meet Our Veterinarians
Lauralyn Brown, DVM
VETERINARIAN & HOSPITAL OWNER
Dr. Brown has been practicing small animal medicine in the Pioneer Valley for 25 years. She grew up in Greenfield, attended Hampshire College in Amherst, and went to veterinary school at Kansas State University. She graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1991. She enjoys practicing preventative medicine and appreciates the special bond that she forms with her long-term clients. She has a special interest in dentistry and behavioral issues.
Dr. Brown shares her life with her two Bernese Mountain Dogs, Jada & Porschia; a Papillon mix, Anna; a Mini Australian Shepherd, Beckett; as well as a slightly fractious feline and two Pygmy goats. When she is not in the office, you can find her hiking mountains, running, swimming, or playing with her dogs in various forms of obedience and agility.
Cheryl Mathein, DVM
Dr. Mathein, a Connecticut native, joined our practice after relocating back to New England in 2016. Prior to her return, she lived and practiced veterinary medicine in North Carolina for over 10 years. Dr. Mathein is a 2005 graduate of Louisiana State University and has a special interest in feline, geriatric, and exotic medicine. When she is not at work, Dr. Mathein enjoys spending time with her own kitties and her husband.

Patient & Client Care Team
After 10 years as Practice Manager, Cheryl now oversees the financial business of the hospital, paying bills and processing payments, maintaining QuickBooks, doing payroll, preparing reports for our accountant.
When not at work Cheryl spends time with her husband and three Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
Sarah joined our team in 2019, having begun her career in veterinary medicine in 2005, and in management in 2017. She currently manages the daily operations of our practice.
During her free time, Sarah enjoys a multitude of outdoor activities with her human family, as well as two dogs and four cats.
Emily S., CVT
Emily joined our reception team in May of 2017. She has since developed her technician skills and graduated from Holyoke Community College earning her degree in Veterinary Technology.
Emily has two dogs, Gambit and Levi, and enjoys outdoor activities with her two and four-legged family including camping, hiking and golfing.
Michelle joined our team in 2019 with an extensive history in nursing. She has lived in the area throughout her life, and is absolutely the best at making our patients feel at home.
Michelle spends her free time reading, practicing photography, and enjoying quality time with her family both two and four-legged, including three cats and a German Shepherd.
Cheryl has been at Dr. Brown's since 2015 and has been working in the veterinary field since 1989. Her love of animals and caring for them has kept her in the field for 28 years. Some of her responsibilities here at the office include being a technician and receptionist, as well as ordering pet food and overseeing inventory. She is very knowledgeable and loves getting to know our clients and patients.
Outside of the office, she has been happily married for 25 years, has three children, and a large pet family.
Sara has been part of our team since July 2017, having entered the veterinary field in 2010. Sara has always had a love for animals, particularly for cats. Her skills extend across all aspects of hospital from reception to surgical support.
Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family and four cats and her dog, Klaus.
Shannon returned to our team in 2019 after spending 5 years in Northern Vermont. Shannon brings a decade of experience to our team, having graduated from Holyoke Community College's Vet Tech program in 2013.
Shannon's furry family includes a Morgan gelding and 3 cats. She enjoys hiking, horseback riding and skiing in her free time.
Danielle F., CVT
CERTIFIED VET TECH
Danielle joined our team in 2019. Danielle earned her CVT in 2012, having begun her career in veterinary medicine in 2010. Danielle came to us with experience in emergency veterinary medicine and wildlife rehab. Aside from offering patient and client care skills, she also manages hospital inventory.
In her free time, Danielle enjoys the outdoors and spending quality time with her pup, Opie.
Erin joined our team in 2020, having begun her career in vetmed in 2012. Erin brings an extensive inventory of skills from reception, surgical monitoring, wellness and emergency care.
Erin enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors with her two dogs and developing a small farm that current consists of raising a number of chickens.
Leah joined our client care team in 2021, making the transition from her extensive history caring for humans to helping pet parents care for their four-legged family.
Leah brings with her a strong background in medical and client care, compassion, and of course, a deep love for pets.
Emily joined our technician team in 2021, bringing with her extensive experience in wellness & critical care, as well as emergency and surgical monitoring.
In her free time, Emily enjoys spending time with her two-legged family and array of four-legged family including her two pigs.
